Frequently Asked Questions

Painting a property can come with some hidden problems and lots of questions when you don’t know what you are doing. At David Reid Painting Contractors we take the hassle and stress out of the whole task. Below are some FAQ’s that we receive all the time from the general public in Perth. If you would like to know something and it’s not listed bellow please feel free to call our friendly staff in our Perth Painting office on 9275 3259.

Q1: I have contracted the services of a painter and I don’t think he is what he says he is, what do I do? As I am worried he will not complete the job or maybe make a mess of our home.

Don’t panic, ask the painter to see his current painters registration id card. This will ensure they are a qualified and registered painter. Secondly look over the contract you have with the painter, reassess what the painter has stipulated in the contract in terms of deposits, how the work will be carried out etc... If you don’t have a written contract with the painter then demand one. You must have something in writing to cover your back. I wouldn’t take the chance with anyone carrying out work in my home unless we had a written binding contract. If you are unsure of what they doing check with the painters registration board of WA. www.painters.wa.gov.au

Q2: Why do painters and decorators always were white clothing?

There is few reasons. Firstly, A good painter will always be clean and tidy with clean whites. We give our guys 5 new shirts a time, so they have a clean one for every day of the week. If one of my guys come in wearing the same whites 2 days in a row I will spot it straight away. Secondly, if a painter drops paint on themselves it can be easily spotted and cleaned up before they brush up against something they shouldn’t. Thirdly, most of the bases of colours we use are of a white base so if we do spill paint on ourselves it’s not so visible and we will get more wear out of our work clothes. Who would you rather contract the services of, a painter that turns up to your front door wearing a pair of old black tracky dacks and a fluorescent shirt or a professional painter that has been taught to wear white clothing since their apprenticeship? I know who I would use.........

Q3: How long will it take to paint my rental property so I can get it back on the market?

We have done so many of these projects as we are in and out with no mess and no fuss. The last few 4x2 homes we have painted the guys were in and out in 3 days. However it all depends on how much work you want to do, but we have plenty of top quality painters and when we tell them the client needs the property leased asap they pull out all the stops.

Q4: How much does it cost to paint a door and frame?

Depends on what colour you want to paint it, but generally if it is an off white colour and you want to freshen it up then we will prepare it, apply a coat of all purpose undercoat then apply a coat of high gloss enamel. This will cost around $125-$150.

Q5: Do you supply the paint?

Yes, we supply everything to complete the contract.

Q6: When can we get you in to do our painting project?

Depends on what needs to be done, however we always try to work to our clients timeframes. We like to get things booked in within 2 weeks of quoting.

Q7: Do David Reid Painting warrant their work?

Yes, we offer a 10 year guarantee on our work some conditions apply, it’s tricky to offer guarantees when you are situated right next to the ocean for example, but we will always offer a good warranty.

Q8: Do we need to give you a deposit?

Yes, we ask for 40% when we schedule in work, all balances must be paid on completion of the project.

Q9: We have some repairs that need to be attended to prior to you painting can you recommend anyone?

Yes, the beauty of being in the construction industry is that have close relationships with some quality tradespeople, give us a call to find out more on 9275 3259

Q10: I want you to do some painting for us if I was to do all the filling and preparing for you will this reduce the cost?

There is an element of DIY to the painting industry, however we are the professionals and we would still need to do our own prep work to guarantee our workmanship, take it from us, leave it to the professionals. I would like to think I was handy with a hammer and saw but I wouldn’t do my own carpentry. Let us take the hassle out of the project and get it done to an exceptional standard.
